Jalana Labs Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 10, 2026
Jalana Labs, LLC (“Jalana Labs,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) develops and operates conversational Guides, including Fire Away, and related websites and services.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through our Guides and related services, how we use and share that information, and how long we keep it.
Some Guides are provided in collaboration with fire departments, public agencies, nonprofits, businesses, or other organizations. A Guide may include an Agency Privacy Supplement following this policy. An Agency Privacy Supplement may provide additional information applicable to that particular Guide or agency but does not replace this Jalana Labs Privacy Policy.
1. Guide Conversations
You do not need to create an account or identify yourself to use a Guide.
When you use a Guide, Jalana Labs may save information associated with the conversation, including:
- the questions, descriptions, and other information you submit;
- the Guide's responses;
- feedback or problem reports you submit about an answer;
- the date and time of the interaction;
- a randomly generated conversation or interaction identifier;
- the Guide and agency associated with the conversation;
- the Guide version and other information needed to identify how the response was produced;
- the model used to produce the response;
- timing, token usage, and similar operational information; and
- technical error information if a request fails.
Because Guides accept free-form text, information you choose to enter may contain personal information.
Please avoid including sensitive personal information unless it is relevant to the help you are requesting.
2. No User Accounts or Persistent Identification
Public Guides do not require user accounts.
Jalana Labs does not require you to provide a name, email address, phone number, or other identifying information simply to use a Guide.
A new conversation identifier is created when a public Guide session begins. It is not used to recognize you when you return later.
Public Guides do not use cookies or browser storage to identify returning users.
3. Technical Information
Jalana Labs does not store a public Guide user's:
- IP address;
- browser or device information;
- user agent;
- geographic location; or
- persistent browser identifier.
For security and abuse prevention, our systems may temporarily read an IP address while processing a request, such as for rate limiting. That information is not written to our conversation database or application logs and is not retained as part of the Guide conversation record.
Technical infrastructure providers may process information necessary to deliver and secure their services according to their own systems and contractual arrangements.
4. How We Use Information
Jalana Labs may use saved Guide information to:
- provide and operate Guides;
- maintain conversational functionality;
- investigate incorrect, inappropriate, unexpected, or potentially harmful Guide responses;
- reproduce and diagnose reported problems;
- evaluate Guide quality and safety;
- test corrections before they are released;
- improve Guide accuracy, usefulness, reliability, and performance;
- understand overall service usage;
- maintain and protect the security and integrity of the Services;
- respond to communications or reports submitted to Jalana Labs; and
- comply with applicable legal, contractual, regulatory, and records-retention obligations.
Authorized Jalana Labs personnel may review saved conversations for these purposes.
5. Artificial Intelligence Processing
Jalana Labs currently uses the Anthropic Claude API to generate Guide responses.
When you submit a question, information necessary to produce the response may be sent to Anthropic. This may include:
- the Guide's instructions;
- applicable Guide documents and governed information;
- the Guide's welcome message;
- the conversation so far in the current session; and
- your current question.
Jalana Labs does not send Anthropic your IP address, browser information, device information, or a user identity associated with the conversation.
When Jalana Labs investigates a reported problem, evaluates a Guide response, or tests a correction, saved conversation content and generated responses may be sent to Anthropic again for those purposes.
Anthropic's commercial API terms and privacy practices currently provide for automatic deletion of standard API inputs and outputs within 30 days and state that API content is not used to train Anthropic models by default, subject to Anthropic's applicable terms, legal obligations, and policy exceptions.
If Jalana Labs changes artificial intelligence providers or materially changes how conversation information is processed, this Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate.
6. Service Providers
Jalana Labs may provide information to service providers that perform functions necessary to operate the Services, including providers of:
- artificial intelligence processing;
- hosting and computing infrastructure;
- databases and data storage;
- security;
- error monitoring and technical diagnostics; and
- other operational services.
These providers may process information as necessary to provide their services to Jalana Labs under their applicable agreements and terms.
Jalana Labs may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to:
- comply with applicable law, regulation, court order, subpoena, or other legal process;
- respond to a lawful governmental request;
- investigate fraud, misuse, security incidents, or threats;
- protect the rights, property, or safety of Jalana Labs, our customers, users, or others; or
- complete a corporate transaction such as a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets.
Jalana Labs does not sell Guide conversation information.
Jalana Labs does not use Guide conversation content for targeted advertising.
7. Agency Access
A Guide may be operated for a fire department, public agency, nonprofit, business, or other Jalana Labs customer.
An agency does not automatically receive access to individual Guide conversations merely because Jalana Labs operates a Guide for that agency.
If an agency is given access to conversation information or has additional privacy, records-retention, or disclosure requirements, those practices may be described in the Agency Privacy Supplement associated with that Guide.
8. Conversation Retention
Jalana Labs generally retains ordinary Guide conversations for 12 months from the last message in the conversation.
After the applicable retention period, the conversation is deleted through Jalana Labs' normal deletion process.
Reported Incidents
If a conversation becomes part of a reported or investigated Guide incident, Jalana Labs may retain the conversation and related incident information beyond the ordinary 12-month period.
Incident records may be retained for as long as Jalana Labs reasonably determines they are necessary to:
- establish what actually occurred;
- investigate a reported Guide response;
- reproduce and diagnose the behavior;
- test and verify corrective changes;
- maintain regression testing;
- document the resolution of the incident;
- respond to claims, disputes, or legal proceedings; or
- preserve an appropriate record of consequential Guide behavior.
Other Records
Operational usage records that do not contain conversation text or a conversation identifier may be retained separately for service measurement, cost analysis, and operational purposes.
Guide versions, prompts, governed documents, and other system configuration records may also be retained independently because they describe the Guide rather than an individual user's conversation.
Technical backups may remain recoverable for a short period after deletion as part of normal backup and disaster-recovery operations.
9. Public Agency Guides
Some Guides are operated in collaboration with governmental or public agencies.
Information associated with those Guides may be subject to laws governing:
- public records;
- government records retention;
- legal process;
- disclosure; or
- other requirements applicable to the agency.
Requirements may differ by agency and jurisdiction.
Where appropriate, additional information applicable to a particular public-agency Guide may appear in its Agency Privacy Supplement.
10. Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking
Public Guides do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, advertising trackers, or similar behavioral analytics or cross-site tracking technologies.
Jalana Labs does not use Guide conversation information to build advertising profiles or track users across unrelated websites or services.
11. Security
Jalana Labs uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure.
Access to saved Guide conversations is limited to authorized personnel and systems with a legitimate operational need for that information.
No internet service, transmission method, or data-storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
12. Privacy Requests
Depending on where you live and the laws applicable to Jalana Labs, you may have rights concerning personal information we maintain about you.
These may include rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information regarding the use or disclosure of personal information.
Because Guides do not require accounts or verified identity, Jalana Labs may not always be able to determine which stored conversation belongs to a particular person.
If you contact us about a particular Guide conversation, we may ask for information reasonably necessary to locate the interaction.
Privacy questions or requests may be sent to:
13. Children
The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed specifically to children under 13.
If Jalana Labs learns that personal information from a child under 13 has been collected in circumstances requiring parental consent, we will take appropriate steps consistent with applicable law.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
Jalana Labs may update this Privacy Policy as our Services, data practices, service providers, or legal obligations change.
Jalana Labs maintains versions of this Privacy Policy so that we can determine which policy was in effect at a particular time.
The current version will be available through each public Guide.
The effective date at the top of the policy will be updated when the policy changes. Additional notice will be provided when required by applicable law.

Agency Privacy Supplement
A fire department, public agency, nonprofit, business, or other organization associated with a particular Guide may provide additional privacy information following this policy.
Any Agency Privacy Supplement applies only to the Guide or agency identified in that supplement and does not replace or modify the Jalana Labs Privacy Policy above.
